Photography /// 04.0

With digital SLR cameras providing an opportunity for most anyone to be an amateur photographer, it seems like just about everyone claims to be a professional.  I will not put myself in the professional category for I do not use studio lighting or fancy flashes.  I like to choose a good location or two with interesting backgrounds, at the right time of day, and get some quality shots. Being an artist, I do have the advantage of understanding composition and knowing how to create interesting and quality photos. My digital skills only improve the final photos, by allowing me to manipulate scales, edit colors, crop and adjust tones to provide clients with a set of beautiful pictures.

Studio shots might bring back memories of childhood family photos, but they can also be rather boring.  My absolute favorite photos are those that capture life happening at that moment, kids running in the yard, a couple gazing into each other’s eyes or a loving family embrace.  During my family functions, I’m always snapping photos of cousins and children without them even knowing and those always turn out the best. Babies and young children can be tough to photograph due to them being rather unpredictable, even more of a reason to choose a candid shot over a posed one.

Much of the photography I’ve taken has then been used to create a save-the-date, invitation, announcement or gift item.
